Please Take It
It's there for you so take it; don't be shy
I wrote a piece about not deleting your drafts and this piece is a prime example of why you shouldn't do it. I must have written this for a challenge and never completed it. Months ago, it was started. Here it is in its finished form and I'm really pleased with it. It might not have been something I'd have written in the first place as it may not meet the original challenge's criteria but having found it again and given it a polish, it's ready to be published and read.
Puff of smoke or rabbit-hole?
The choice is yours, my friend.
Rocket-blasted into space?
Tucked inside a carapace?
Hide yourself within a tower,
(Shave head before ascending).
Sift into a bowl of flour?
The choice is never ending.
There really are a million ways
To leave this place, replace your days
With something different, something other
But don't do it if you love another.
I have a bumper book entitled
"Leave Without A Trace".
Suggestions like the ones above,
A directory of escapes.
It would be the perfect tool...
To turn oneself into a ghoul,
A memory, a wisp of time
A shadow only on my life.
A question: why the vanishing act?
Why don't we make a pact?
Explain to me: what's going on?
Why the eagerness to be gone?
FBI? Bankruptcy?
Mafioso pressure?
Affair? Depression? Holiday?
Stolen someone's treasure?
Because to want to move away
Completely disappear
Is something radical, extreme
Not what I want to hear.
Absence makes the heart go fonder -
If you promise to return.
Disappearing means no longer
Seeing how you curl
Your mouth when something amuses
Or wrinkle your brow when something confuses.
These things of yours would disappear too.
To allow this to happen, would make me a fool.
Let's talk this out. Let's have a chat.
You can tell me where you're at.
I'm here to absorb the sadness
So you do not dive into madness.
Bend my shell-like, chew it off
Lobes are overrated
Make them burn until they're hot
And your misery is sated.
You're here with me, you're not alone
Together we can make it.
No-one's ever made of stone.
There's help, support - please take it.
