This was written after a love affair abruptly ended some years ago. The shock of finding out, the relationship I thought was good, was to end. The grief and emotion brings the prayer and hope that a relationship will rekindle. More often than not, it is usually the end, as a couple.

Love is meant to be happiness
If so, then where is mine,
I feel so heartbroken and lonely
Since you changed your mind.
***
I cry myself to sleep each night
And pray you’ll come back soon,
You said you only needed time
But all I really need is you.
***
I miss you every minute
I’m hoping you miss me too,
Please tell me you regret
Telling me we’re through.
***
We felt so good together
So imagine my surprise,
To hear you say this now
Please listen to my cries.
***
If you do, in fact, regret it
Know that I love you so,
Come on back to me
And never let us go.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
