Everywhere I go,
I see you
You have that ability;
Where when the pressure or heat you face increases
You just mould
Adaptable, durable, resilient, making any colour your own
Straight out of an epic
Having all the ingredients of a magical remedy;
natural products of cellulose, coal and crude oil
It almost sounds like a tragicomedy
---
When we first got to know of you
You became renowned
You had that kind of accessibility
That made all our lives a little more sound
---
You have the ability to steal the glory from any sea
After all, you are difficult to unsee
You are an ever-looming presence
Adamant to stay
Even after you’ve heard our say,
Making sure you’re memory never fades away
---
Any attempt at making you leave
Just constricts the air we breathe
Any attempt to stop your welcome
Is limited by the defence of our dependency
---
Maybe you’re just tired of being ignored
You have that self-awareness that is asking to be freed
An escape from the blame of taking up all this space
When truly we’re the ones who should take heed
And stop crying songs of liability
---
Maybe it is time that we take the onus
To not treat our earth as a bonus
I am sorry to say that
To call this space home
We will have to atone
But without any suffocation thanks to your absence
---
