Champion thoroughbred racehorse
No one knew this
at the start, of course.
In the Great Depression in 1930’s
People needed hope and a HERO
1930’s Melbourne Cup
Phar Lap ran and didn’t need a intro.
He captured the imagination of
AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND & the WORLD
He ran so fast; he made your toes curled.
What a heathy beautiful
Chestnut coloured horse,
At 1.74mt high
He knew how to run his course.
He was known as BOBBY to his mates,
somehow, he knew this
He did relate.
37 wins for 51 starts
His treats where sugar cubes
That sometimes made him fart.
Foaled in New Zealand
Trained by Harry Telford in Sydney
When Phar Lap won
There was plenty of Whiskey.
At the start of his career
He had plenty of losses,
When he found his stride
His owners had so much pride.
Phar Lap had his formula,
to hang back at the start, then
Come from the outside to
take a win,
win he did, from there on in.
come 1932, 5th April,
came bad news
it was so painful.
Phar Lap had died
Poisoned by arsenic
This news was sad.
The way he was killed
was so bad.
With assumptions and theories, aplenty
It will never be known where it come from
Everyone’s heart felt empty.
Phar Lap left an enduring legacy,
Sadly, he was
Killed out of jealousy.
We celebrate his
Strength, endurance & mateship
This horse made history,
And that’s the transcript.
There will NEVER be another horse like
PHAR LAP,
