Peristéri and the Blacksmith's Daughter

Clink! Clank! Bang!
Deafening were the sounds of metal. Sara's ears were in pain.
Her father knelt by the fire.
She hid in the corner, careful not to breathe.
Her eyes wandered.
His were distracted.
A bird—its feathers were snowy and thick.
Its curious ores followed the girl who was barely shielded in the dark.
It was kept in a French iron cage.
Both the girl and the bird locked gazes.
Creeping, careful, and skillful.
The girl found her way to the bird.
Cling! Clank! Bang!
Little Sara jumped.
A gasp and a shriek!
Her father watched the whole time.
A nod and a laugh.
The blacksmith finally let little Sara play with her new friend.
