PERFUNCTORY

Person going through the motions carelessly

Every greeting is done mechanically

Remote slothfully

Face smile superficially

Underhand cursory

Nice, but not nice

Calculated comments

Token apology

Obligatory pleasantry

Right statement half-heartedly

You aren't thoughtful!

AN: This week perfunctory was a word of the of day. Severly times a week, I share "the word of the day" with my grandsons. It isn't perfunctory but a grandmother's thought and care for her grandchildren.

Have you observed people repling without listening or hearing what the other person said? I vividly remember telling a military wife and mother some horrific and personal happenings and hearing her reply, "That's nice." I came to the conclusion that she was being perfunctory.
