Damien wiped his hands on his apron and stared at the bubbling pot on the stove. The rich aroma of tomatoes, garlic, and basil filled the kitchen, but something felt… flat. He dipped a spoon into the pot and tasted the sauce. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t right either.

It was supposed to taste like his grandmother’s marinara, the one she’d made for every family gathering when he was a child. This wasn’t it.For weeks now, he’d been trying to replicate her recipe. He’d gone off memory at first, throwing in the usual suspects: crushed tomatoes, garlic, onions, basil, a touch of sugar.

It wasn’t enough. He’d scoured food blogs and forums, experimenting with variations—San Marzano tomatoes, fresh oregano, red wine—but none of them brought back that nostalgic taste. It was maddening. Damien reached for his phone. Enough was enough.
