Perfection

A Poem

Afraid to die alone,

more scared to be forever

with someone not meant to be.

But what can I do?

Feeling trapped,

like a rat in a cage.

I can’t break free.

I don’t know who to be.

Wondering what I want to do,

who I want to be,

what the future holds

that I cannot see.

Blinded

by what could have been,

what should have been.

And I know

nothing is perfect,

just like everything

is an illusion.

But what is reality?

Am I living in a nightmare or a dream,

where nothing is what it seems

and I can’t find my way out?

The lines are linear,

going forward and backwards,

up and down.

The path is not clear.

The doors are locked

and the windows boarded.

There is no light

at the end of the tunnel.

I am lost.

There is no love

within my heart,

within my soul.

Broken.

And I realize

this is the only way

I can be whole—

by letting go.
