Pendulum
A poem inspired by the Roy Orbison song "Legend In My Own Time"
Life like the pendulum,
of a clock,
keeps moving back and forth,
as minutes, hours and days,
go rushing by.
While we like marionettes,
walk and dance,
to a rhythm,
moved by an unseen hand.
Our special moments,
always noted,
our days running one into the other.
Perhaps if we stand out from the rest,
put things to the test,
make our dreams,
become reality –
we can be legends in our own time.
To make our lives special,
we must find a purpose,
to live each day,
to take and find,
something that will make us smile,
leaving a memory behind.
So many things.
that can bring,
joy and gladness.
The smile of a child,
the sweet kiss of a love,
the beauty of nature
and the changing of the seasons.
There are these
and many other reasons,
to stop and smell the roses.
Rainbows that fill the sky,
after a refreshing rain,
dark days when the clouds sail away
and the sun comes shining through,
These keep the pendulum swinging,
bringing us through our days,
making them a little gladder,
making our load lighter,
as life marches on
and we along to the rhythm.
