PEN PALS
Good therapy
&&
I love writing letters – not emails.
Emails are so much less personal.
A letter you can hold is like a caress
From a faraway friend.
We all that shoulder to cry on.
Or a face from the past who understands.
To sit and compose a letter to mail?
It helps us think, calm, and share our emotions.
I’m one of the lucky ones.
I have friends nearby and friends that are not.
There are friends who live thousands of miles away.
Some, just down the block.
But the ones faraway share my love of letters.
Just the anticipation of walking to the mailbox
Pulling open the slot, and finding a letter.
Makes all of us smile, just knowing we’re loved.
Yes, we’re loved enough for someone else
To take the time out of their busy days
To write and say hi, or say, I need to talk, or
Just to say, I thought of you today.
Each day, when I I open my mailbox,
And receive a letter from one those cherished pen pals
For whatever reason their writing,
Brings a closeness and warmth to my heart.
