Pen And Paper

Judging

By Earl W. PearlPublished 5 months ago • Updated 5 months ago • 1 min read

“What you’re writing is deceitful, said the paper to the pen

No wonder women cheat against unfaithful, cheating men”

The pen replied, “It isn’t me, I’m just a writer’s tool

I’d never waste my ink in writing something to be cruel

And who are you that’s judging me for what these people scrawl

It’s you, the paper being read, when tears begin to fall

Angrily, the paper said, “Your words are what upset her

Not until there’s written words do I become a letter”

The pen replied, “I only write when in a person’s hand

So why is that so difficult for you to understand

I wouldn’t write these nasty things if it were up to me

That’s not the kind of pen the factory molded me to be”

The paper said, “I’m guiltless, I’m a clean sheet at the start

It’s not until there’s written words that unions fall apart

It seems we’re far too eager to be judging who’s to blame

Since you keep blaming me, well I’m just treating you the same”

The pen replied, “I hear you, let’s be civil moving on

Before there’s no more paper and my ink’s completely gone

These cheaters point their fingers at each other, to condemn

But in the end it would appear, we’re just as bad as them”
