We slowly trudge
our way upward
and the horizon above us
is barely budged.
The moments blur together
into one long, unceasing toil.
Then suddenly,
we're floating.
I'm peeking
across
the crest
we're peaking.
A new view
emerging,
my stomach acids
surging
and rising,
the empty
space ahead
is thrillingly
surprising.
The way is down to rest.
The way is down to bed.
It's all
downhill
from her.
And that's
a good thing.
Descent
is a comfort
so long
we've been hiking.
