Pebbles

A poem

A million pieces

Of sifted sand

A lesson of crushing

Of far off lands

The words that come

Have little say

When all is done

At the break of day

Renewal sings

Like the songbird’s cry

And every hurt

Makes a lullaby

Of sweet surrender

And victory nigh

The waves crash over

And fear subsides

Pebbles small

Beneath my feet

Create tingles of life

However discreet

I’m reminded now

Of all that’s passed

Of secret hurts

And pain that lasts

And then aloud

My heart does sing

Of the life I’ve found

In the suffering

And every hope

Breathes life again

When suffering becomes

A trusted friend
