I listen to the silence.

Hearing everything that is missing.

The serenade of traffic

The whisper of the leaves moving in the trees

The cascade of everyday noises that layer our daily life

Even the sun has retreated to the ethereal plane

Leaving me standing alone in the front yard of a home now empty

Lost in the labyrinth of my memories

Seeing the shadows of a man who was such a dear enigma to me

Mostly he liked to garden

His kept the lawn perfectly trimmed and watered till it was like lush green velvet

His flowers were always bigger and brighter than those of his neighbours

Like they were vying for his praise bending in the wind to his touch

He had the power to draw life like a magnet

He would pull the best from people simply by having unshakeable faith in them.

Knowing and believing in their best self so powerfully, there was no other choice for them but to become it

To be way brighter, way stronger, way kinder, way smarter, way everything good because there was someone who believed so strongly, they could

He could parse any problem down to the crux of it and make you see the solution as easy as pie

What is the solution to dying I wonder

He thought that was simple too and pulled the sheet over his head
