Pearls, Falling Leaves, & Train Cars

Your life in the moment before it is gone

Focus.

This moment of your life will be gone in the time it takes you to breathe in, breathe out. Were you here for it?

Did you feel the moment before it faded into the next?

Did you feel the pain, tearing through you like a scream?

Or the love, rising up and flowing out like tears?

Did you feel the pure unadulterated joy of your laugh flowing out? Feel at all the beauty of your wonder?

Or did the moment slip away like sand and impatience and fingers darting over a rosary without the intention of prayer? Did you spend this moment in the past or in some rosy, distant future?

Will you wake up and catch the next one, latch on to it like a miracle? Try to hold on and fail entirely? Learn finally that you can never hold a moment, but you can live it?

Focus.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Your life in a string of moments, like pearls. Like leaves falling. Like train cars.

Here, one beautiful moment.

Then, gone.

Perfectly imperfect…

and so beautiful it hurts.
