Sticky peanut butter skin,
A rich tan,
Steeped in summer sand;
Waves push me back again,
Draw lines like a nude crayon.
A beige bay dotted in dirt,
The color of dust worth
The price of gold--
My hazel eyes,
Giggling green rolls
Of lush countryside.
Chocolate ringlets distinguish
Brown from brown,
Cream colored coffee,
Ground from ground.
You see me in sepia--
Toned burnt sienna.
Really I’m spicy,
Raw ginger,
From toe to finger.
Warm chestnuts,
Crackling on wood--
Mahogany undercuts.
Fire burns amber,
Toasting my skin,
Marshmallow--
Soft yet shelled
Between graham crackers,
Honey flavored
Or cinnamon--
These are the colors of my skin.
