The peace of shadows.

I know by chance of lands akin to these,

That on a darkling plane do co-abide.

(A sadness lingering on every breeze,

The touch of frost and loss one feels inside.)

I lived there as a Willing many years,

This place of peace and shadows cool to roam,

And used to dark to smother all my fears,

While earthly wanderings sought the fool a home.

Such life was half-lived, hungry, cold and dumb.

And brought a lonely madness to the fore,

For while affection choked with every crumb,

It's new-found taste addicted me to more.

I sit now, cold, in shadows of disgrace

While blinding thoughts torment me with your face.
