Pathos of Love
A poem about how love is defined
Love is chaos, a tempest wild and free, It sweeps us up and tosses us about,
A force that shapes and molds our destiny, And leaves us forever changed, no doubt.
It starts with a spark, a glimmer in the eye, A feeling that grows and takes hold,
We're drawn in, unable to deny, The power of a love so bold.
But love is messy, it doesn't play by rules, It shatters the structures we've built,
It leaves us vulnerable, exposed and fooled, And often leaves our hearts filled with guilt.
"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage."
— Lao Tzu
Yet still we chase it, this incumbent force, For in its midst we find our truest selves,
We learn to let go, to trust the course, Through the twists and turns of love's wild swells.
And in the end, we emerge transformed, Stronger, wiser, and more complete,
For love has shaped us, and reformed, And made us into something sweet.
So though the pathos of love can be tough, And leave us battered and bruised,
It's worth it, for it teaches us enough, To face life's challenges, no matter how bemused.
