Past Expiration

the ending

By Hailey RohdePublished 4 years ago • 1 min read

I sat outside today

to have a daydrink

though,

by the time you are reading this

my beer will be flat.

I know you called me

Hailey

as if it was a commitment

inflecting

petty, old friend

Past

the gas station

we ran to

cigarettes

worth of weekly

allowance

to die

on these days

to no live

Forever

in this house

slamming

milk, five

minutes past expiration

dates

we never went on

If this friendship

could speak

Shut up,

I love you.

Hanging on by a red string

with each

hand

on the clock wall

that never got the timing

right

of the moon

is the planet

we called ours

in the winter-

time snow

men

full of trash

melting into

itself

on the couch

we built

forts around

the things you

will miss

when you left

me

Waiting

as you said

good-bye.

Call me five days

past expiration

call me two revolutions

around the sun

call me,

old friend,

artist,

love,

call me when you’ve made it

past the point

of just scraping by

call me baby,

freckle in the sun

waste of talent

saltless recipe

good time

petty princess

Just call me

back

before you can no longer

call me drunk.
