I look to you
and see an oasis,
something I could only ever
hold for the moment like a pool
of water leaking out the space
between my fingers.
Every kiss is stolen
by the monotony
of a Monday commute.
You are,
like my body
And everything it touches,
only there for a moment.
My greatest fear
Is dying
during your absence
in some mild manner.
Submitting to
some clump of cancer
shaped like the repercussions
of my overindulgence.
I dream of an escape.
To hear the engine
of some foreign car
as my would be accomplice
sings a sweet farewell
to our ancient life.
I want you
to be the end of me.
I want to shed this second skin
and scream God’s forbidden name
into your pillow.
I want
for this sweet embrace
to feel like the drop of amber which
encases the ant in a state of
accidental immortality.
