The games mean girls play—

genteel Jumanji

crossbred with dodgeball

until all that’s left in the world

is a cruel jungle of lies,

vines of manipulated stories

choking lions while paper

tigers stalk emails,

author’s words weaponized

against her, all so the barren

queen of an empty house

can steal a child

after the fact.
