Paper Crown
every man is a king in the lawless land of ocean blue

kings dream of prestige
and dine on honeyed hawk hearts
three quick meals for fools
lousy, a quick carol of late
Double drones, slick servings of
Underappreciation, a monster casked
In red, tasked and bled. Shout!
Indigo chapters, the pages feel light
The words blur, excitement dredged in the crease
A hard havoc to share, murmurs echo the corners
Quick livid heartache, a bastards meal.
Horace raised the hand, cold undertake
Supple, sublime caskets of corduroy
Shake in tandem with the bands of bravery
Let your world quake, the dirt ocean bends and waves
Cascading lavishly on ravaged seas, a sailor
No better than the fish he nets,
Starboard, a visage appears
Thirty seagulls and a pair of thrush
A cosmic squall, paralyzing and gorgeous
Changes to the tune of the sailors song
“A dying set of breaths,
The king feasts on our children an’ Crimson!”
A slanted unwelcome thought,
“I ought to have that too!”
About the Creator
Trent Odlin
After getting diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease at the age of fifteen, forcing me out of school and uprooting my life, I spent the majority of the next five years in bed. There, I found writing, and my own style of surreal poetry.
