Overworked and underpaid

Is that my fault or a problem I made

I'm old and should have stayed

working for another decade

before retirement, but no

I needed a break, and so

I retired at sixty-two

It was a stupid thing to do

~

I didn't care what I was paid

just as long as I had made

the time go by, and I was dizzy

with all the things that kept me busy

and I was having fun doing them

I didn't think about a replacement, ahem

when the time came to really retire

as who could live on the money. to hire

on. I should have asked for a raise

instead of working for all the praise.

~

Then there is the taxes that came along

I'm not good at paying ahead. Is that wrong

to do? I just wanted to give it all away

Does that count on my taxes. Some say

it does, if you do it right. The giving sway

to giving it away. It makes it look

unfair to pay me less than my co-trainer in the book

~

Then I'm getting old, so is that fair

to charge more to hear from someone who is not all there

Okay, that really is unfair

to say! I'm not that bad yet!

But who wants to bet it is happening faster than I think

I think this can really stink

No, I will work as long as I can and for pennies

if they will have me or even pay me in bennies (abbreviation for benefits, not drugs or a distasteful person)

~

Really, I am doing alright and it has been ten years

of retirement. I've not shed any tears

over the work I do. I love it, I do.

Time to get going as I have work to do and who

could they get if not for me in my old age

I could say I am taking the stage

soon, and make the replacement wage

a lot more as the cost of living has gone up

It is difficult to get a cup

of coffee for under five

when it was a dime

a while ago in my time.

~

Enough rhyme

I will work until I die

I would love that, and plan to try!

It really is time to end this!

I think I solved this. Now to dismiss

it with a kiss.
