Over a Shoulder, 👤Beneath a Heart ♥️

The lurking, the clutching…

By Gabriel B. ShamesPublished 5 months ago • 1 min read

I feel it on the other side of my head…

Some creature with arms spread and a gaping mouth that could swallow whole someone larger than itself.

🫣

The swirling shadow of its menacing hands and windswept robe —

Grimacing teeth under a twisted, pointy hat.

👹

I fall to the ground,

Head hung and awash with tears.

The blanket around me damp with sweat… and the beige floor boards hard as bone.

There I am, struck down by the grief of heartbreak.

đź’”

The unburdening —

The unending undertaking, un-conditioning of unbearable understanding.

The decommissioning —

The deconstruction, deprogramming of dependence and diminishing determination.

The reconnecting —

The relearning, releasing of old relationships to regain reliability and power over relapse.

❤️‍🩹

So, the monster’s behind me… but so is my whole past.

The unrelenting, dematerializing, soon to be relinquishing past.

🔚

So, what now? From now on?

Behind me, I hope to see nothing. And ahead of me… something completely different. Something entirely new.
