Outside.

Remix of 'Now That We Don’t Talk' by Taylor Swift

By Poppy Published 2 years ago Updated 2 months ago 1 min read

You flash your plane ticket

Like some kind of trophy

Always with a packed suitcase

Always with a camera aimed

I heard your happiness

Shouted from the rooftops

And asked everyone I could think of

If it was real, if they thought

You ever even wondered about me

But I suppose it will

Forever be a mystery

Now that I am locked

Out of your life with

A dead bolted door

You cut your hair

And sapped it of colour

Like you’d once done

To my confidence

From the outside

It looks like you have

Killed the old you

Almost as ruthlessly

As you assassinated me

I miss the girl

Without the plane ticket

The one who held kindness

But it is painfully obvious

That I don’t have a say

From where I stand

Outside your life

Stepping around the landmines

People swear you lost

More than I did but

My reflection has scars

And shadowed eyes

I step on a landmine and know

You will never unlock that door

What do you tell

Your family who

I once called mine?

Do you tell them about

The grave you dug for me?

People agree you lost your empathy

And I start to wonder if

Maybe I always gave you

More credit than you earned

And now that your life

Is not intertwined with my own

I don’t have to breathe around

A building scream

Count to ten every twenty seconds

Or swallow my own pain

In order to sate yours

So I tuck my joy

Into the pocket of my jacket

And from where I stand

Outside your life

Away from your landmines

I realise

You lost more

Than I did
