OUT TO PASTURE

For years, the idea of longevity stemmed from the touch of love and healthy living. Sending those that have been the backbone of the family away that are still able is an old saying called, “out to pasture”-

It has been a crying shame, a child, once nursed to good health from a sick bed, growing into adulthood- has forgotten the compassion, generosity, and love, that was given freely, someone, who stayed up all night making sure that child is safe, well and comfortable- has no regards for those who took the divine love placed within and shared it with the helpless in their time of need.

They are adolescents, refusing to assist an elder in time of need-. Some will stand in their few years of being alive on this planet with the belief they know everything. Therefore, you cannot reason with or teach them. As if, they were born with the blueprints of how life works.

They are ready to put you out to pasture!

From childhood I have admonished those that will take advantage of our elders. It felt as if, that was my duty, my assignment at the time to make sure they are treated fairly. Is it possible, I was once an elder who was deemed to be useless in a past life, who felt the need to right some of the wrongs?

In my twenties, feeling care- free, I would pack up my beauty gear from cosmetology school and spend the day doing the hair of the elderly at the House of the Aging. Strike a conversation with them and just enjoy their company. I find the elderly fun. They desire to have people come visit and bring “life” with them energy, sparks and laughter. No one should ever be forgotten, no one should ever be made to feel they are useless – with nothing to offer the world. I did not know one person in that facility, but I treated them all as my family... I heard a song within my spirit. Sung by the hearts of maturity.
