A quote from a 911 survivor: “we didn’t see color, we were all covered by the same ash”
It returns every year and repeats without change
The emotional stirring of strength and unimaginable pain
Like lightning out of the blue, from the clearest of skies
We were all dazed and confused watching those final goodbyes
The instinct of survival and determination of life
Drawing strangers together to collectively fight
Gathering together a courage and preservation of self
Fighting off like creation, the absence of itself
Color bled till transparent there was no gender or age
Something strangely aberrant evolved from the struggles that day
The blackest cloud of horror had enveloped the sun
The lives we had once known, were erased one by one
And every year we remember, we swore we'd never forget
That fateful day in September when a whole nation wept
