The halls are filled with laughter.
The sun filters through the windows.
It appears that the kids are indeed okay.
Giggling like school children should:
coloring and playing games to pass the time.
Unplugged.
Talking, sharing, dreaming, connecting,
bundled in comfortable pajamas,
wearing fuzzy socks,
enjoying the present moment,
content,
safe.
The kids are definitely okay.
Until they are not,
and then the whole world locks down
unable to contain the darkness
or process the painful reality—
our kids are definitely not okay.
