Our minds are our ponds.
Of our minds we must learn to grow fond.
Fishing, the sport and a lifestyle, of this a little boy has grown fond.
Yet, there is something large dwelling within the pond.
The size of this fish is rather grand.
Yet, this is a fish that no person can land.
Jabari's friend Chidinma cheers for him as he reels it in.
Yet the line snaps from the powerful strength of its fins.
His friend goes back to the village to practice some math.
The fish talks to the boy, setting him on the right path.
The dry season with the water comes and goes.
The fish sleeps in the mud hidden. Where? Nobody knows.
The elder has seen that fish since he was a young boy.
That fish has evaded nets, hooks, and chains, every ploy.
The legend is trying to teach Jabari, a lesson he must discern.
He practices when he's young, but gains wisdom, he later learns.
The first taught him a many great things.
Powerful lessons from a powerful beast, wisdom it brings.
The fish helped Jabari reach his potential, truly he's been blessed.
With his last words, Yuusuf asked for a wish with his dying breath.
"Let me feed you and to continue to feed the village with my flesh."
Legends never die, even after death.
