Open Eyes.

Not all wars happen on battlefields.

They happen in our head,

In the dead of the night or break of day.

Each thought a minefield,

Wrong step and you're dead.

They happen in our homes,

Sneaking up on you like a stealth attack.

Every waking breath a new lesson in combat.

They happen in our schools,

Five year old learning how to duck for cover.

Getting ready for bed with a lock down procedure

Stuck in their head.

They happen in our communities,

A conflicting site.

Cop cars cruising down the street like a tank.

One wrong move, and it’s the end of you.

We’re battling wars everyday.

Each one of us soldiers, the bravest ones youths.

We’re at war with ourselves,

Each other, even the world too.

It’s time we open our eyes.

It’s time we take a stand.

Not all wars happen on battlefields,

And that is our truth.
