Dear Child of Mine . . .

I know you love noodles, kaboodles of noodles,

But healthy they simply are not.

Picture this tale about Miss Sally McGoogle.

And yes, noodles make up the plot.

Miss Sally McGoogle is slurping a noodle

That must be as long as a mile.

While sucking that noodle, our Sally McGoogle

Is smiling the biggest wide smile.

And at the same table, each slurping a noodle,

And smiling their own happy smiles,

Are Sally's own other and Grandma McGoogle.

Their bowls hold the yummiest piles.

A bowl heaped with oodles of long luscious noodles

Is Sally's most favorite meal.

"Come Get it!" our Missus McGoogle you-hoodles.

And you will hear Sally's loud squeal.

'Twas Sally's own Grandma who first slurped cooked noodles

Then Mom said "Why, this is quite good!"

And now little Sally loves all pasta oodles

As Grandma and Mom knew she would.

But then came a time when she'd eat ONLY noodles,

And Sally got puffy and pale.

In school she was weary and sat drawing doodles.

Her teacher said "Sally might fail!"

And playing with friends, someting Sally loved oodles,

Left Sally all droopy and sad.

Then Grandma McGoogle thought "I fear it's noodles

That leaves Sally feeling so bad."

So, Grandma said "Sally, just look at this noodle.

A noodle alone is plain white.

A good life needs color, and so, Miss McGoogle,

The answer is right in plain sight.

You must eat some color along with those noodles . . .

Red apples, brown beef and green beans,

So you can be one of the healthy McGoogles."

And Mother cried "Oh, by all means."

That's how Sally learned she can't eat only noodles.

She also needs veggies and meat.

And fruits of some sort can be seen when McGoogles

Sit down at the table to eat.

And you, Child of Mine, have a food you love oodles,

And you, too, must eat others, too.

Yes, Sally would tell you she still thinks those noodles

Are better than chocolate fondue.

Be like Sally McGoogle, slurping her noodle

That must be as long as a mile.

While sucking noodles, you and Sally McGoogle

Will be smiling HEALTHY big smiles!

All my Love,

Mom

Writing was always my plan, but having passed 3/4 of a century of living, things have gotten really real. If I don't do more than dip my toes in the water, I'll run out of life & time. I am ready, with some trepidation, to make the dive!
