One Work: Starry Night

For Raymond G. Taylor’s One Work Challenge

By Stephanie HoogstadPublished 3 months ago • 1 min read
The Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh

They say that I'm mad

But look at the swirling stars

Bending everything

The church, trees, and moon

All of them are just victims

Of the stars' own whim

Such a peaceful night

And yet--there is a violence

Lying beneath it

They say that I'm mad

But look at the swirling stars

Bending my poor mind

Author's Note: This is for Raymond G. Taylor's One Work Challenge, the link to which can be found below. I was inspired to write this for Van Gogh's "The Starry Night" by reading Diane Foster's entry on Monet's "Le Grand Canal". The colors of Monet's work just reminded me of the brilliance of Van Gogh's work, and I loved the idea of writing a piece from the artist's perspective.
