One More Time

A poem by Jason Morton

By Jason MortonPublished 4 months ago 2 min read

Chasing one more time

Waiting for so long

Living in a past that's long since gone

Tomorrow is already spoken for

---

And why not when you find yourself there

Only so much about this life is ever new

By the time you're facing the blackness of tomorrow

Chasing down that one more time seems fair

---

What would it be for the chaser's delight

A song ringing repeatedly in their minds

Voices of the past are always there to remind us

Of the better times before time itself washes them away

---

Wandering through the looking glass

Diving deep into a forgotten past

As the waters begin to crash against the sands

Looking at things that disappear all too fast

---

Time comes for us all one day

And feeling its grasp causes wonder

When it comes to the young, there's less tomorrow

What to do with one more time

---

To feel the soft touch of one more hand in yours

See the smile of someone special

Watch as they run with reckless abandon

Then listen as they comb the mysteries of the world

---

Dancing under the stars in the pale moonlight

Stopping to steal one more kiss

Enjoy that look of wonder aimed your way

That feeling of being the only one in the world that matters

---

Beaten up and too old, you think

But one more adventure could be afoot

A soul's purpose doesn't recognize age

And into the fires, when needed, you'll run

---

The sweet relish of memories not forgotten

Visits with old friends and ones who got away

To remember how close you were to being happy

Before time and fate pushed closed that magic door

---

Now comes the miracle of it all

Tomorrow's shrinking faster and faster

All the loss, the pain, and the sorrow

Soon to be washed away like the tides washing away the sand

---

The sands of time are missing on both sides

Lines growing closer and closer

Could give me that one more time

Or the tides crashing in will ease the fractured mind

---

The darkness grows in front of the soul, searching for another

A massive wave comes washing in

Smothered by the all-mighty truth of it all

The final tides come, and you're out of time
