One Last Dinner

Family Dinner

I watched her stand for years cooking and cleaning.

No matter what you may need she was always there.

even when she felt bad, it didn't stop

her she kept on going.

Her heart was getting weaker by each day.

Everyone around her could see a change.

They knew it was just a matter of time before her heart

would give out.

She called for a family dinner.

The table was full of all the favorites, potato salad, fried chicken, corn bread to coconut cake.

There was no room anywhere on the counter tops for anything else.

After everyone was sitting down eating.

She stood up,

"The reason I asked, you all here I want you to

laugh, talk, and tell stories.

Eat all you want.

Stay as long, as you want.

Because this will be my last dinner.”

Not knowing what to say, we did just what she said.

We laughed and told stories on each other, we also did

Some crying.

One by one everyone left.

Closing the door, with tears in her eyes

And love in her heart.

It wasn't but a few months later she passed away.

All she wanted was one last dinner
