Once We Were Fire Healers

and so shall we be again

Moments before I enter into an irrational rage,

the voice of the ancestors springs forth, gentle and mild.

Skuggi, Skuggi, they point out through the wisdom of age.

Shadow is taking hold, turning you into a beast that is wild.

Remember ye, remember ye the days from long ago!

Back when we dwelled beyond the northern wind, Apollo's chosen few.

Back when we could tell who was friend from who was foe.

Back when the medicine of both the body and the soul we once knew.

For once we were fire healers powered by the midnight sun.

Purified by the long winter when with our shadows we did become one!

Known for warmheartedness when ostentatiousness we did shun!

Yet now we are remembered for all those we did scare.

Dressed in skins of the wolf and the bear,

pillaging, and plundering without care.

In song and film, they celebrate the end of our age.

The battle glory of the hot-headed ones in a supernatural rage!

Without even realizing how far from our ancient ways it was we had strayed.

For once we were fire healers powered by the midnight sun.

Purified by the long winter when with our shadow we did become one!

Known for warmheartedness when ostentatiousness we did shun!

Yet somehow our ancient ways we did forget,

and the whispers of Loki brought Baldur to Hel.

Yet that was only the beginning of our lament and regret.

As the shining warm-hearted one became locked in a cell.

Then Skuggi took hold, turning us into beasts that were wild.

When we only worked with the anger of the wolf and the bear.

And now the hot-headedness is yours, and for that, I am sorry my child.

As our descendants are now burdened with a Vagus nerve that needs repair.

Yet in this modern age, with the spirit of Vidar And Vali, you will rise.

For healing lies in the bellows of breath and exhalations with care.

In journeys within as you look Fenris deep in his eyes,

and rip his jaws asunder by connecting with the earth and the air.

Our warm hearts will return as we become as those who are Zen,

Baldur will once again rise and escape from Hel's pen!

For once we were fire healers, and so shall we be again!
