On High

3/14/08

Sit on high and watch over the land,

The land of hope and dreams.

We watch as our people work and thrive,

Whilst all we can do is vainly strive.

High up on a hill, a hill of lost memories.

You and I sit back to back, ignorant to life.

Why can’t we turn around and work together?

Why are we too stubborn to face each other?

The hill is so high, we cannot get down,

Even if we wanted to. We need each other.

We stand and propose our thoughts, but neither listen.

I talk while you argue, I argue while you talk.

We are aware of a hole in the ground and take a look.

We stare into the dark, into the depths of our minds.

We can feel the fear and malice. We can hear the dissonance.

We hold hands and run down the hill of discontent

Now at the bottom, we pull away. We hide what we want hidden.

Now we are with the others, the ones with hope.

We are amidst the dreams and splendor,

Of which we watched in moods of somber.

We are rejected for we still bear hostility.

This land is pure and we are not.

We are sent, exiled, to the hill once more.

We sit back to back and watch our people work and strive.
