She trembled at the thought of landing

on German soil

pacifying her misgivings

by picturing prominent individuals

who had resided there

like Nietzsche, Freud, Einstein

rather in vain

when realising in each case

that the end was far from pacific

Influential Nietzsche lived the latter part

of his inspiring life

losing his syphilitic mind

in an asylum for the insane

Dear Freud escaped the Nazis

in the nick of time

only to commit suicide

a year later in London

to put an end to his combat with cancer

and thus prevent it

from ravaging his mind

Mind-boggling Einstein fled

from the Nazis

to the USA

to witness his famed equation

in action

many times

Nagasaki wasn’t the last
