On Father's Day

Thinking of my father

Another Father’s Day is here.

People will celebrate,

facilitate their fathers.

I can't cheer,

lost mine two years before.

He is gone,

but I don’t have to speak,

all good of him

if he did not deserve,

that appreciation.

He was flawed,

like most humans.

He didn’t agree,

with my choices,

neither in my career,

nor in my life partner.

I had heard him say to people,

“She’s stubborn, a rebel.”

I’m proud of my decisions,

I was protecting my rights.

He was my father—

the progenitor and protector,

he paid for my education.

But I had seen him

make bad decisions,

for himself,

which got him into troubles.

If you can’t make right calls,

for your own life,

how can you do,

that for me?

So, I listened to my conscience

and obeyed that instead.

If you say,

your father was ideal,

sorry to break your belief—

that’s just love and delusion.

Love them anyway—

they were, or are,

emotion-driven humans,

run by insecurity and motivations.
