A poem

I’ll be okay.

I tell myself okay is better than horrid.

There are volcanoes erupting inside me,

but the worst has come and gone.

Picking up the pieces,

melted debris,

to build again.

Maybe this time it won’t be mountains out of molehills.

The anger and pain have to escape somehow,

so they become a geyser of emotion.

I sobbed like Demeter losing Persephone every fall,

and wondered if my tears would bring on new seasons.

My tears could spring the gardens of Babylon.

My jaw hurts from forced smiles and holding back my pain like a dam.

It’s a slow trickle in letting go,

but I’ll be okay.
