"Oh Jeff......

For Raymond G. Taylor's "Oh Jeff flash fiction challenge"

By DaphsamPublished 2 years ago • 1 min read
Detail from Roy Lichtenstein, I love you but, 1964, private collection

“Oh Jeff…. I love you too..but

our love was built

around a fragile dream.

My husband’s heart,

echoes steadily

in your chest.

*

I can no longer wear this mask.

*

It all began with

my obsession

in finding you,

the one who

was restored

by my love’s

pulse of life.

*

At first,

our time

didn’t feel

like a passionate crime.

Meeting of souls

looking for connection,

a balm for healing.

In search of simply

feeling alive once more.

*

Yet as each

sunset painted the skies,

the silent turn of the year.

An awakening

to my senses

like a flower opening to the

soft golden rays.

*

You are not him.

*

I can’t go on,

with this love,

for it’s as tainted

as the murky ocean.

*

I am not your ladylove,

I am just someone,

who is clinging

to a ghost who

is in heaven above.
