Ode to the Simple

September 2012. Companion to 'Summers Day'

If I could compare you to a summers day,

I wouldn't.

Because summer days are crowded and hot ,

And never quite what you think they should be.

-

I would compare you to a grey day.

A day that's cold with a persistent drizzle,

That soaks you completely,

On the one day you've forgotten your umbrella.

-

And I would compare you to when you get home ,

And have that cup of tea.

That you've been looking forward to all day.

The one to warm you up.

-

Your smile is the sugar sweetness of it,

And your laugh the biscuit ,

That I should treat myself more often to.

Your embrace

-

Is how I feel,

When I take my first sip of the honey liquid.

Provided I haven't been impatient,

And burnt my tongue.

-

I look forward to these days,

When I can come home,

And sip my tea whilst I look at you,

And say 'ooh, lovely.'
