Ode to Old Friends

A poem inspired by the passage of time

We’ve not seen each other in years,

Much less spoken.

You used to help me fight away my fears,

Now you’re one of them.

Everyone knows Old Friends are the best

For knowing your feelings and thoughts

And helping when you’re down.

But my Old Friends, we’ve lost touch

And I feel I’ve let you down.

Things have changed a lot for me,

I bet they have for you too.

I’m afraid of sending that message on

Facebook or Instagram

Or even text because ‘what if’. ‘What if’

Thoughts never finish

But they don’t need to because I already know.

I’ve lost my confidence.

I’ve lost something that gives me that ease to speak,

But I want you to know

I’ve missed you, Old Friends and

I would like you to know

“Hi, it’s me from [REDACTED] and I’ve missed you.”
