Ode to IDA
Hell hath no fury like a cat 4 hurricane
Without a moment’s hesitation and completely void of any discrimination, we suffered your wrath
Guided by Mother Nature and fueled with a god like vengeance, you obliterated everything in your path
You stole a piece of our heart when you massacred Cocodrie and eradicated Grand Isle
Our Sportsman’s Paradise is going to be better than ever in just a short while
Here in Louisiana, it takes more than an appetite for destruction to keep us down
We take pride in being called Cajun’s and have the best sports fans around
Every year our definition of home and sense of community is put to the test
How do We respond…
By throwing Hurricane Parties and getting drunk while waiting for IDA our uninvited guest
Sorry we Called your bluff, we were wrong, and it cost us dearly
So much loss countless lives ruined, and did I mention we do it yearly
no electricity no phones and no income and nothing but defeat
No running water, nothing to do but endure this blistering heat.
Ida,
there is something beautiful and cathartic about being stripped down completely and going back to your roots
It drives our entire community to focus back on what really matters, uniting as one unique place we call the boot
I simply call it my Home
A place we even allow hurricanes like you to roam.
So, tell your friends all about us, make sure they are clear
We must first recuperate from your pop in before they are welcome here
