The table is made
Forks, spoons, and knives lined up for battle
Napkins triangular and atop the clean plates
Come in for shelter from the rain or to dry after dancing
A warmed towel dresser stands at the entrance
Shelves are dusted and floors are swept
Collars tucked and accessories matching
Everyone is invited to October’s house for the feast
They are back in town for their yearly vacation
Be appropriate and timely
Do not discourage originality
The home promised with a just-baked Dutch apple pie aroma
Fruit platter mostly picked straight from the backyard vines
Squash plentiful ready to be sliced, seasoned, sautéed, and served
Potatoes will be baked, roasted, fried, boiled, mashed, and hashed
Many options to satisfy all
Beef stew with hearty strips in beef boned broth
The animal sacrificed recent for this occasion
The ritual was performed in the name of October
The home so massive that maps are provided upon arrival
Orange, green, and black decorations aesthetically pleasing
Themed rooms and joyous tunes
Just loud enough to create a welcoming mood
For those who like chills down their spines
The theater will be playing horror movies on a loop
Hannibal, Jason, Michael, and Freddy are all making special appearances
But promised to be temporarily on their best behavior
Masks required to be on in the haunted den
A chest filled with assorted choices
The rule brought after the last feast the year prior
The ghosts disgusted by our tangible facial flesh
Can you blame these phantom beings?
If you drink too much hard cider
The beds are made if you lodge, laundry fresh, and ready for guests
Plaid coats of all sizes hanging in the closets
More than anything you must adhere to this...
Do not walk the halls after midnight
And do not feed the roaming pets
No matter how cute and no matter how much they beg!
October’s mansion is as is known at the top of the hill, no neighbors
No need for an address as all can see it lit from below
Arrive by 8pm as a minute later the door will go unanswered
The festivities begin promptly at that time.
