Only one way to enter

As the wind blows the leaves

That have grown as a mountain

And now fly in the breeze

You step within them

In that moment of flurry

And it is no longer your street

But an entire world blurry

Colours they blend

And flow all around

Each colour a scent

To a taste and memory bound

You reach out your hand

Your fingers brush orange

Your tongue tastes cinnamon

On a bowl of warm porridge

Your feet step into a kitchen

You reach out to your son

But before your hands touch

Your feet brush reddish-brown

Now heat touches your toes

As you sit in front of a hearth

You taste pumpkin pie

And you hear sounds of mirth

You turn your face

To join in the joy

But your cheek touches yellow

And you’re now a young boy

Lemon tea with honey, its flavours abound

You look out the window

You see leaves piled in a mound

They call to you and you run

The wind whirls once again

You enter its whirl

And you wake up a man

You are back in your life

As the last leaf falls

And you smell snow on the breeze

October’s last bell tolls
