October is a basement
with you crawling within
where spiders do not scare you
as though they are your kin
happy to rest beneath your skin
Climbing up the stairs
shadows too long, just out of sight
carrying the itch of unseen eyes
perhaps imagined in the night
overjoyed to be a fright
At the top of the staircase, a light past the door
a lone heart beating
not waiting for more
under sheets sleeping
not yet weeping
Arm slithering across the floor
climbing up the bed to explore
your fingers wrap around the ankle
so slowly she can ignore
until she can deny more
The lone heart pleading
her madness shrieking
your jaw unhinging
your delight peaking
with no sign of retreating
and the delicious pour of bleeding
on the floor of your sunken home
