October

Amber and ache

October

Cinnamon

Nutmeg

Applesnap

When I enter October

All I smell is nostalgia

Spicy and sweet

I return to my childhood

The soft amber hue

Tints my vision

A reminder

Of all the pumpkins

And their guts

The heat of the summer dies

When I finally

Step into October

Like a spell

To keep exhaustion at bay

Sweaters

Hot cider

Warm blankets

On a movie night

We only eat sugar

In October

Half the businesses

Are dedicated to mend

The rotting teeth we are filled with

Slow music

Fills the fall streets

Synthwave

Engrained in the soul

Of October

And in the end

When I leave

Trading this beautiful moment

For the harsh winter

I can only cry
Frozen tears
