Ocean Bed

A poem

Not enough sustenance.

-

Everything is fine, and I mean it literally.

everything’s the same, a looping image of

a life that I witness from great distance.

-

A body beneath water

only trying to sleep,

I drenched my tired feet

on the lengthy walk to you.

-

An eternity on that ocean bed,

but still, I was so restless.

-

Staggering in a drunken manner,

lungs on fire, breathless,

I listened to the murmured birdsong

and felt time pass

underneath the pressure of

that crushing hourglass…

-

Blissfully unaware that I was

being buried by those sands.

-

The strongest sense of shame,

I crush my self-worth like an insect

and stagger home beneath the raining rubble,

the Hindenburg, again.

-

My feet above the concrete,

a lack of touch, still incomplete,

my eyes forced closed

amidst the bass-heavy vibrations

-

my meagre body crumbles

and admits defeat

again.
