This Year
2021
This year I didn't put up a Christmas tree;
because I didn't have anything to go underneath.
I'm so grateful to be alive
as many others suffered from this pandemic and some have died.
Doctors overwhelmed with anticipation
To give people hope for their situation
Trying to find a cure for COVID-19 and give us answers
While scientists are still trying to find the cure for cancer
No not this year I'm not worried about a tree
I'm grateful to be alive that makes me happy
I'm not in debt because of Christmas, I have rent and bills to pay
Christmas is not what it used to be to me it's just another day
To spend what we don't have for things we don't need;
Then trying to rob Paul to pay Peter with no job or money
Christmas is about love family and most of all Christ
I wonder what would Jesus say when we were bought with a great price
He laid down his body and gave of his life, the gifts that were brought for Him were simple and plain
Not extravagant from high price stores or some high-end names
No not this year I didn't put up a tree my grandkids know that I love them unconditionally
Our gifts are everyday when God allows us to wake up and see
While others don't have a roof over their heads and nowhere they can be
I look back over my life and everything I have been through with a loving heart and tears
No I do not care to buy or put up a Christmas tree no, not this year.

Abuse
ABUSE Struggling, trying, crying myself to sleep; ducking and dodging hoping and praying he does not hit me. A woman on the edge alone in the dark. If I don’t get out of this now, I’ll never get a new start. I kept quiet. I thought he was the one. After we were married, I was given every bad name under the sun. I thought he would never treat me so unkind. I lost the weight like he said to cheat on me anyway, I almost lost my mind. I thought to myself, I’ll change him, we'll be alright, only to find a car another woman bought, he drove her all night. I covered up my black eye, covered up my blue. I tried to hide it from my family and friends, but they always knew. I had a little girl who witnessed all of my shame. I finally showed my daughter not to accept misuse, to break those chains, and stop the cycle of abuse. Women are worth loving and giving of love; self-help especially seeking God from above. To the only One who gives unconditionally, why not have someone to respect and love your inner beauty.

It Only Took One Minute.......
It only took a minute. I was sitting at the computer in my office when the phone rang. I picked up the receiver and then laid it down my desk as I went to find the student who the call was for. Within seconds I was back at my desk, ready to resume typing, when I heard the student yelling obscenities at me for listening in to his call through the handset that was still lying on the desk. Sick and tired of the lies he was spewing, I was up running down the hall, ready to kill him. By the time I reached him, I had calmed enough not to hurt him, but as I turned back towards my room, I knew that I couldn’t go on like this any longer. The decision was clear. I had to leave.
