It is more than not succeeding,
It is more than a failed task,
It is allowing the lesson to go by unheard,
It is more than not achieving the goal,
It is more than not winning,
It is allowing the lessons to go by unseen,
It is allowing emotions to take control,
Driving blind and deaf you see.
It is allowing the negative coping skills to
Shine bright, winning over the sight.
It is giving in and not seeing the detour,
It is excepting the defeat without thought or question,
As to who is right!
It is the deceit and giving up on oneself.
It is never an option yet many except with thought.
Returning to the old easy, the confrontable,
Failing to see that each deserves,
What’s given and earned in this life.

High Rise, Deep Impact
I have witnessed a death that I relive every time I step into an elevator. Although it no longer affects me as deeply—given that it's been 11 years since the incident—it remains a heart- rending memory from my first and last day as a paramedic. My initial call to the scene involved a man who seemed to have fallen down the elevator shaft of a high-rise building. Alternatively, it might have been that the elevator moved upwards while he was working on it. Different scenarios were being considered when I arrived.
